Caterpillar® Wheel Loader
Hulcher maintains a fleet of rubber-tired Caterpillar® wheel loaders, with models ranging from the 966 to the 988.
The wheel loader can move and load large quantities of rocks, dirt or other materials quickly and effectively. Many of our wheel loaders have an optional fork attachment to increase their capabilities.
The wheel loader is one of the most flexible pieces of heavy equipment in Hulcher's fleet, serving a variety of engineering service roles. It is used to cut and grade soil on the right-of-way or as part of road construction or site remediation. It is also used to load dump trucks with refuse materials or ballast as part of grade stabilization or other MOW projects.
This versatile piece of equipment is frequently used to replace switches or track panel, and to drop in fresh ballast when the rail pieces have been positioned.
The wheel loader also performs post-derailment work, cleaning coal or other materials and prepping the right-of-way for new track panel.
Often deployed with dump trucks, excavators or sidebooms, the wheel loader can work independently or in support of rail gangs as well.
Whether your next project is maintenance of way, switch change-outs, environmental remediation or clean-up work - if the job calls for moving materials, Hulcher's Caterpillar® wheel loaders are ready to go to work for you.

Case Study - Hulcher Excavator, Wheel Loader and Backhoe Perform Bridge Maintenance - The railroad needed to perform major refurbishing on a 300-foot bridge on an active stretch of right-of-way. They needed a contractor with the equipment and expertise to remove the old rail, ballast and support ties and replace them with new materials within the tight time constraints of their traffic schedule.
Case Study: Pile Driver, Excavator and Hi-Rail Rotary Dump Truck Stabilize Bank at Bridge Headwall - A significant erosion issue was causing the railroad to lose track profile adjacent to the headwall at one corner of a bridge. They needed an experienced railroad contractor to build up and stabilize the bank around the headwall.
