The railroad retired two hopper cars and needed a contractor to load them to a flat car for transport to the scrap yard. Hulcher Services’ Caterpillar® 572 sidebooms safely lifted the cars’ bodies and wheels and placed them on flatcars.
Hulcher’s crew used blocks, chains and cabling to balance and tie down the hopper cars. The professional crew members were able to complete the job in accordance with AAR standards, performing the work at a busy rail yard without interfering with railroad operations.
Railroads and industry across the country trust Hulcher’s experience to perform mechanical / railroad projects like this each year.
Hulcher pioneered the derailment response industry with innovative techniques that reopen the railroad to traffic faster than any other company. Over the years Hulcher diversified its services for Mechanical Departments beyond derailment response, to include load outs and tie-downs, traction motor and wheel changes, pressure washing and mobile locomotive servicing. Today’s Hulcher leverages decades of derailment experience to deliver a broad range of railroad work with the same level of professionalism that railroaders have come to know and expect from Hulcher’s crews since 1963.
