Our equipment is maintained through Hulcher’s Preventative Mechanical Maintenance Program. This multi-layered, proactive system of inspections and servicing that ensures our equipment is trustworthy and ready to go to work when you need it.
Much of our equipment falls in the category of standard heavy pieces used for multiple types of work. However, some projects require highly specialized equipment, engineered to perform very specific tasks. SideboomsList Item 2
Our Sidebooms are customized for work in railroad environments. They have been fitted with a rear winch to provide towing capability of 60 tons or more. They are equipped with cutting torches and all the cables, chains, hooks and tools necessary to respond to any derailment situation.

Wheel LoaderList Item 4
Our wheel loader serves a variety of engineering roles. It is used to cut and grade soil on the right-of-way or as part of road construction. It is also used to load dump trucks with refuse materials or ballast as part of grade stabilization or other MOW projects. The rubber tire loader is frequently used to replace switches or track panel, and to drop in fresh ballast when the rail pieces have been positioned.

Hi-Rail Vacuum Truck/Hi-Rail Transfer Vacuum Truck
Hulcher Services' Guzzler® hi-rail vacuum trucks are rail-ready, boom equipped, self-contained vehicles that use vacuum power to remove contaminated and unwanted materials. Material removed is stored in the Hi-Rail's large collection tank for subsequent treatment and disposal or reuse*.

Caterpillar® Backhoe
Our Caterpillar® backhoe has a standard dig depth of 14 ft 4 in, a bucket dig force of 13,875 lbs and a dump height of 8 ft 5, giving it the power and capability to perform a broad range of tasks. Designed with the railroads in mind, each backhoe is equipped with regular and cribbing buckets and an extendable arm with thumb for work on the railroad.

Dump Truck
Our dump trucks have a capacity of 8-22 cubic yards. They can be deployed independently or in conjunction with other Hulcher equipment, like the excavator, wheel loader, track loader and telehandler.

Hi-Rail Crane
Our Hi-Rail Cranes are equipped with hi-rail gear. Whether the job is located in a tight working space at the rail yard or a remote location on the right-of-way, the crane can get there - by road or by rail. It is also equipped with cutting torches, cables, chains, hooks and all the necessary tools to support the many services it provides.

Hi-Rail Rotary Dump Truck
Our Hi-rail rotary dump truck is powerful, flexible piece of heavy equipment that is designed specifically for railroad work. What makes the rotary dump truck ideal for railroad projects is its special dump body, which features a sub frame that swivels the truck bed in either direction. The rotating dump bed allows the truck to deposit its load anywhere on a 180 degree arc without moving the vehicle itself.

Our Dozer Rake is Hulcher's special, patent-pending attachment for a Caterpillar® D5 dozer, designed specifically for ballast leveling, the even distribution or removal of ballast from beneath railroad tracks.

Caterpillar® Dozers/Graders
Our Caterpillar® dozers/graders are equipped with a six-way blade for grading or clearing the site following a derailment or during a switch change. The dozers have a rear-mounted winch for moving rail cars, expanding their capabilities for railroad support.

Hytracker® Rail Cart
Our Hytracker® rail cart is a low-profile rear-loading platform that provides on-track access to excavators that aren’t equipped with hi-rail gear. The rail cart is powered by the excavator’s hydraulic system via a quick-coupling system; once connected, the cart and excavator become a self-propelled system that travels on track to reach even the most inaccessible places.

Locomotive Service Truck (LST)
Our Locomotive Service Truck (LST) is a self-contained, mobile service solutions truck that brings the most commonly needed services directly to your locomotives. No longer do you need to send locomotives on side trips to the terminal for servicing. The LST brings locomotive cleaning and servicing directly to your location.

Caterpillar® Telehandler
Our Caterpillar® telehandler has a telescopic boom that extends forward and upward from the vehicle. With a lift height up to 40 feet and a load capacity of up to 10,000 pounds the telehandler can move materials in larger amounts and higher up than standard forklifts.

Off-Track Undercutters
Our Off-Track Undercutters remove contaminated ballast and debris from beneath railroad tracks from an off track location. The undercutter can be used when the grade of the ground adjacent to the railroad tracks is quite different from the grade of the track itself.

Air Spade®
Our Air Spade® is a highly effective tool that uses a high-pressure focused flow of air to dislodge most soils, fouled ballast and compacted debris from beneath railroad tracks. This innovative handheld device is only four feet in length, weighing only seven pounds, and yet it packs a powerful air blast of 90 pounds per square inch to loosen and blow away hardened mud and dirt, fouled and impacted ballast and other material that is caked around your rails and ties.

Panel Boss®
Our Panel Boss® eliminates the need for the ground crew and chains. The excavator operator controls the Panel Boss® directly from the cab of a specially modified excavator. The operator places the Panel Boss® on the panel and activates pins on the side of the device. The pins extend into the rails on the panel, providing a secure grip. With the device’s pins in place, the excavator can lift the panel, rotate it to any angle, and place it exactly where it needs to go. This means track panels can be lifted and placed more quickly, precisely and safely than ever before.

Vibratory Hammer Pile Driver
Our vibratory hammer pile driver is an excavator-mounted attachment with an articulating side grip that speeds the pile driving process. This innovative device uses the excavator's hydraulics to quickly pick up, unload, place, drive and extract the piling. It is designed to overcome obstacles such as low overhead clearance and narrow passageways.

Grapple Truck
Our hi-rail grapple truck is the perfect fit for maintenance services such as picking up bulky waste, brush and debris around the rail yard and on the right-of-way. Environmental response trailers are comparably equipped so relief crews can step into a trailer from another division and immediately know what supplies are available. Our Food Van operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We can supply tents, tables, chairs and outside lighting to provide a comfortable place for your crews. Between meals, the van can serve as a place for meetings or as a break space for workers to escape the elements.

Kubota® Tractor/Bush Hog® Mower
Kubota® Tractor/Bush Hog® Mower attachment mows yards, fields and property along the right-of-way for a variety of vegetation control projects. It cuts grass, weeds, undergrowth, brush, even trees with trunks up to four inches. The box blade attachment further expands the tractor’s capabilities, performing ground work like loosening soil, moving large amounts of materials and rough grading.

Light Plant
Our light plant is a generator-powered, mobile light system that provides illumination over a large area. Configurations for Hulcher's light plants vary with the brand and model, but a typical light plant will feature four 1250-watt lights, extendable up to 30 feet high on the system's mast. The plant is mounted on a two-wheel steel trailer that can be towed by Hulcher's pick-up trucks or other over-the-road vehicles.The light plant's four-point stabilization design keeps the equipment safely in position even when the mast is fully extended.

Citation Jet
To operate the jet we employ a full-time staff of veteran Captains and First Officers ready to quickly respond to emergency situations with disaster response services anywhere in the United States, Canada and Mexico. With the jet we are able to quickly pick up our relief crews from any of our divisions and deliver them to any of more than 5,000 airports.
